The Ministry of Education’s Spokespersons Team paid a working visit to the PR Team of the CENTRE FOR NATIONAL DISTANCE LEARNING AND OPEN SCHOOL (CENDLOS) at their office at Roman Ridge. The team made up of Ernest Akosah, Deputy PRO for the Ministry of Education and Kwasi Kwarteng a spokesperson for the Honorable Minister. They were welcomed by the CENDLOS CEO Nana Gyamfi Adwabour who took them through the history of the Agency, its mandate and initiatives. They were also taken through the PR plans for the rest of the year 2021 and 2022.
In a tour led by the CEO, the visiting team was briefed on two key initiatives currently running to support the education delivery namely the iBox and icampusgh.com e-learning platforms. The Head of the Agency explained the iBox to be an offline e-learning solution designed to provide SHS 1- 3 content for core subjects and some elective subjects as well as open-source materials.
He added that since 2016, the iBox has been part of a wide-ranging Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP) to support what the government describes as ‘low-performing’ schools in ‘underserved districts. So far 154 SHS are benefiting from the project in districts across Ghana, with an additional eighty-three yet to be deployed.
According to the CEO Nana Gyamfi Adwabour, the iBox runs completely offline so the device acts as a local file server. It contains a quad core processor and the current versions have 2 terabytes of local storage. Once installed in the schools, the iBox is accessible to students on either a mobile or desktop via a Wi-Fi connection in a 100-meter range.
